Jupiter Viewing

Jupiter is getting all the attention tonight. That’s when the solar system’s largest planet will make its closest approach, to Earth, at approximately 367,000,000 miles away. That’s almost half the distance the planet is from the Earth at its farthest. The last time Jupiter was this close was in October 1963. For the best viewing astronomers say after sunset, go to an area where there are no lights and look southeast. That bright object in the sky, it’s Jupiter.
