Mark Bishop will be with us for our Proclaim Sharathon, Thursday, October 5th!
Mark Bishop is a Grammy-nominated, Dove Award-winning Christian music artist who resides in east-central Kentucky with his wife Carolyn. In 2024, Mark will celebrate a forty-year career in Gospel Music as a touring singer/songwriter.
It has often been stated by radio programmers and fans alike that Mark has one of the most recognizable voices in Christian music. As an artist and songwriter, through the years, he has brought to listeners many chart-topping songs of hope and encouragement. His songs have also been recorded by several of Gospel Music’s top artists, such as The Kingsmen, Legacy Five, Brian Free and Assurance, The Kingdom Heirs, Allison Durham Speer, and many others.
Mark’s musical roots trace back to idyllic summer evenings in Kentucky, singing on the front porch with his family. From these beginnings, The Bishops began to form a musical foundation that would usher them to the forefront of Gospel Music. The family group enjoyed enormous success across radio, television, and concert appearances, with twenty-seven Top-40 songs, numerous #1 songs, along with numerous award recognitions throughout their seventeen-year ministry. The Bishops made many appearances on popular TV programs including TNN’s Nashville Now, Crooke and Chase, The Grand Ole Opry, The World Today with John Hagee, The Bill Gaither Homecoming series, and more.
Mark’s solo career began after the family group retired in 2001, with that yielding more chart-topping and #1 songs. Mark was voted “Soloist of the Year” in 2005 at the Singing News Fan Awards. In 2020, Mark’s “Beautiful Day” album was a Top-5 Grammy nominee for “Best Roots Gospel Album”. In 2022 he was the recipient of the “J.D. Sumner Living Legend Award” from the readers of SGN Scoops Magazine.
In all, and if you’ve ever met Mark, his greatest joy comes from the simple and small moments in life where God displays daily grace. Mark and Carolyn have just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They have raised two daughters and are enjoying grandchildren now.
A music reviewer once wrote, “Mark’s music gives us the glasses to see the bigness of God in everyday happenstance.” When you hear Mark’s music, you realize that he is a minister of a different kind; one who has chosen to convey the love of God through the crafting of lyric and melody into an endearing story.
